NOTO
It is the capital of the Baroque. Walking through the streets of Noto in the middle of the noble palaces and baroque churches brings the visitor to the beginning of the 700. We recommend walking in the historic center of Noto and visit the churches and historic buildings. Try the cannolo made at the moment at Caffè Sicilia (on the main street).
Noto Antica: located 10 km north of the present town of Noto, on a rocky mountain, Mount Alveria, the ancient Noto was razed to the ground by the famous earthquake of 1693. Today it looks like an evocative path in nature, with the ruins of the ancient city that emerge from the grass.
Eloro: is an archaeological site located on a promontory near the sea, near the mouth of the river Tellaro. Once thriving Greek city was destroyed with arrival of the Arabs. Noteworthy are the Greek theatre, the medieval Torre Stampace and the remains of sanctuaries, walls and buildings dating back to the classical age.
Colonna Pizzuta: located a few kilometers northwest of Eloro, is a funerary monument, consisting of a colossal column in limestone rocks. Nearby there is a hypogeum excavated in the rock, dating to the second half of the third century BC.
Villa del Tellaro: the archaeological site consists of the remains of a rich suburban residence of the late Roman imperial age. Found since 1971, the remains are located on a low elevation at the river Tellaro, under a farm seven-nineteenth century.
